Digital certificates
A digital certificate is a virtual „identity card” enabling you to identify yourself without ambiguity on the internet. The Certification Authority (CA) issues such digital certificates, which contain 3 categories of information:
  • Personal data: your name, unique series, issuance and expiration dates;
  • Decoding data: your public key within the PKI architecture. Other persons may use your public key to check the validity of the electronic signatures. Likewise, public key is also useful for the messages encryption. Only the persons holding the correspondent private key will have access to the message;
  • The electronic signature of the Certification Authority, for cheking purpose. This signature guarantees the certificate’s authenticity.
You may use the digital certificates for:
  • Creation of simple electronic signatures or vested with legal value;
  • Identification and authentication of persons or machines (VPN gateway, PC’s) and web servers;
  • Encryption of stored or transiting data (e-mail, SSL channels, IPSec).
