certSIGN issues qualified certificates with cryptographic keys longer than 2048 bits. Most information systems and applications where certSIGN clients use qualified digital certificates and electronic signatures have been updated to support the use of longer cryptographic keys.
To ensure compatibility with old information systems (legacy systems), certSIGN continues to issue qualified certificates with 2048-bit keys for clients who use the certificates within these systems.
The term “Old systems” refers to: the CASMB, CJAS, and OPSNAJ systems, as well as all applications for medical offices, hospitals, pharmacies, etc., that communicate with and are compatible with the systems of the National Health Insurance House (Casa Națională de Asigurări de Sănătate), as well as the systems of other public institutions that require the use of certificates with a PKI key length of no more than 2048 bits.
The qualified certificates with 2048-bit keys issued by certSIGN to be used by clients that utilise the legacy systems defined above can also be used by these clients to interact with the systems of other public institutions in Romania to meet legal requirements.
