Last two weeks of registration for the Romanian National Cyber Security Challenge 2022. What’s next?

Young people passionate about cybersecurity can register for free until July 22 at the third edition of the Romanian National Cyber Security Championship (RoCSC22), an annual CTF (Capture the Flag) event that aims to discover young talent in the field and at the end of which the team that will represent Romania in the European stage of the competition (ECSC22) will be established.

certSIGN will be involved again this year in the stages of selection and training of those who will represent our country at the European Cyber Security Challenge, by developing challenges with different levels of difficulty (in areas such as cryptography and IoT – Internet of Things ) and support for participants. We also support Romania’s team, covering part of the costs of preparation, travel and participation in the final stage of ECSC22.

Participation – who, how and why?

The online qualifications phase will take place between July 22 (16:00) – July 23 (22:00) and registrations can be made HERE, until the day of the contest. The competition is open to young people eager to demonstrate their skills in the area of cybersecurity, and the players will be transposed into a scenario that involves the development and defense of an infrastructure.

The participants will compete in 3 categories – Juniors (up to 20 years old), Seniors (21-25 years old) and Open (available regardless of age), their skills being tested in areas such as web security, cryptography, reverse engineering and investigations, programming, Linux / windows / macOS and mobile security .

The final will take place on August 6, in Bucharest, where the provisional group of a maximum of 20 people will be established, respectively the first 10 ranked in the two eligible categories Juniors and Seniors. In addition to the chance to participate in ECSC22, the selected competitors will also benefit from cash prizes:

  • First place: 2000 euro
  • Second place: 1000 euro
  • Third place: 500 euro
  • Places 4-10: special prizes

From RoCSC22 to ECSC22

In order to establish the final representative of Romania which will participate in the European Cyber Security Challenge 2022 (ECSC22), the young people selected in the provisional group will attend a 4-day training bootcamp, organized in Bran between August 17-21, 2022. The training sessions will be held with specialists in the field of cyber security and at the end the national group will be selected

The national team consisting of 10 people and 2 reserves, selected at the end of the bootcamp, will represent Romania in the ECSC22 final, held in Vienna, Austria, between September 13-17.

The Romanian national team – which in 2019 managed to win the European trophy, will fight this year with 23 other countries for champion title: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Switzerland, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland , Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Great Britain, Malta, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain. At the same time, teams from Serbia, Canada and the United States are invited to participate as quests at this year’s edition.

The Romanian National Cyber Security Challenge 2022 is organized by the National Cyberint Center within the Romanian Intelligence Service, the National Cyber Security Incident Response Center – DNSC and the National Association for Information Systems Security – ANSSI, together with the partners Orange Romania, Bit Sentinel, certIGNS , Cisco, Palo Alto, KPMG, Click and UiPath.
